About the Department

Department of Physical Education and Sports, Shaheed Himayun Muzzamil Memorial, Govt. Degree Anantnag was established in year 1960. The Department is committed to foster a culture of health and fitness for individuals of all abilities. The department is also dedicated to mentor and prepare athletes for making a mark at inter-college and inter-varsity sports events. The department offers an impressive facilities and equipments ranging from outdoor to indoor. Cricket, Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho, Badminton and state of art Gymnasium, Badminton hall and Table tennis hall. The facilities are designed to promote physical activity, fitness, support recreational and competitive sports and enhance the overall student experience.
The core objectives of the department align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, as we strive to promote physical activity through promotion of sports, walking, cycling and active recreation as a means to “ensure healthy lives and promotion of well-being”.

Infrastructural Facilities

The Department offers a comprehensive range of programs and facilities to support both recreational and competitive sports.
Outdoor Facilities:
1. Sports Fields: Fields for Cricket, Football, Hockey and other team sports along with a space for 200 mtr. Athletics track.
2. Volleyball and Badminton Courts: Outdoor volleyball and badminton courts that provide students with additional recreational opportunities.
3. Walking and Jogging Spaces: Designated areas for jogging and walking , encouraging outdoor fitness.
Indoor Facilities:
1. Gymnasium: Equipped with strength and cardio equipments, free weights and machines for fitness levels.
2. Indoor Hall: A state of art badminton indoor hall and table tennis hall that allow for year-round training and competition.
The combination of quality indoor and outdoor facilities enables the department to meet the diverse fitness needs of student community, promoting physical health, sportsmanship and lifelong health enhancing habits.
