Department, since inception (2001), has been working in tune with the mission of the College to promote teaching learning process, Research and Consultancy. Besides teaching, one of the remarkable activities of the Department has been the vigorous researches done by the faculty members in both the theoretical and applied Statistics. The thrust areas of research in the Department are: Probability theory, Bayesian Statistics, Sampling Theory, Reliability, Information Theory and Biostatistics. Most of the faculty members of the department have published their research papers in different national and international refereed journals. The Subject Statistics is one of the most important fields which caters to the need of the society at large and of course provides better employment opportunities for the students opting for the subject.

The current environmental issues like climatic change, loss of biodiversity, depletion of ozone layer, Habit destruction, population explosion , increasing demand for food and energy is increasing day by day. To assess these changing environmental conditions, find the suitable solutions to these burning issues and educate people how to live and develop in a sustainable manner for the protection and improvement of environment, the subject of environmental sciences holds utmost importance. It helps us to develop knowledge about environment and gives us ability to resolve these issues so that we can make the world a better place to live in for us and for our future generations.

The department is having shared class rooms and Audio visual facilities for effective teaching learning process. Besides, a rich collection of foreign and India authored books, magazines and journals are available in the college library for the students.

The department is highly enthusiastic to impart the interdisciplinary knowledge to the students. In addition to routine classwork work, department celebrate all important National and International days related to environment, organize writing competitions, seminars, etc. The pass outs are serving in various areas like PCB(Pollution Control Board), ERA(Economic reconstruction agency) , higher education etc and many more are pursuing higher degrees in the field of environmental science from various reputed universities.
